Background for this Step
The prerequisite check step ensures that you have the software and information
necessary to proceed through the remainder of the signup process steps. Review the
following checklist and act on any outstanding items.
Actions to be Taken for this Step
Contact your Everlink Account Manager. This is necessary so that they are prepared to
expect and approve a client certificate request that is submitted later in this process.
Obtain Internet access. This is accomplished through one (or both) means depending
on your situation:
If you have a permanent connection through a corporate firewall or proxy server, you
will need to ensure that the appropriate access is available. Specifically, you will
need HTTP (port 80) and HTTPS (port 443) access allowed outbound to the Internet from your
workstation. Authentication using user identifier and password at target websites is
required, too. Check with your local technical support team to determine whether
these access options are in place.
If you want to obtain dial-up access, you will need to establish an account with an
Internet Service Provider (ISP). Various companies are available to provide this
access. Access to this service is independent of any particular provider. Your
choice of ISP will depend on your own particular situation and criteria.
Verify that your HTTP Web Browser can support File Upload using INPUT TYPE=FILE HTML tag
(as defined in RFC1867), supports SSL V3.0 and X509 V3 Certificates, and has the ability
to participate in a 128 bit encrypted session. The prominent web browsers on the
market that support this feature are Netscape Navigator (V2.0 and newer) and
Microsoft® Internet Explorer (V3.02 and newer). You can download the latest
releases of either browser by clicking on the corresponding icons provided below.
The requirement for upgrading from the standard 40 bit to 128 bit encryption support may
require the download of an additional component for the browser products.

Obtain a license for a software package that will provide the compression (for uploads
to Everlink) and/or decompression (for downloads from Everlink) of the data files exchanged.
Everlink will compress all files to be downloaded to minimize networking resource usage.
Everlink recommends (and may require) that any files uploaded be compressed before being
sent. Examples of vendors providing this type of product are:
Once the preceeding steps are completed, you will be able to access the Client Access portion of
this website. A user identifier and password will be required to enter that portion
of the site, and then you will be able to securely send and retrieve files through your
browser.
